It has 11 verses and is a Makkan surah. The hypocrites, or munafiqun, who constituted a threat to the early Muslim community in Mecca are the main theme of the book. The Surah Munafiqun warns these hypocrites of the repercussions of their behaviour and implores them to stop from their ways and follow the straight path of Islam. The first verse of the surah is an instruction from Allah to the munafiqun, warning them that their dishonesty and duplicity will be exposed. The Surah Munafiqun then highlights how dumb the munafiqun are for believing that Allah can be unaware of their incorrect belief. Furthermore, it warns that they will face harsh punishment on the Day of Judgment and that Allah will not pardon them.
